Blender is a very powerful free graphics tool that offers an astonishing array of features, Blender is an open source 3D graphics program which is completely
free, a quite remarkable fact when you consider what this utility packs
under the bonnet – namely a highly comprehensive set of modelling tools.
Blender has been going for over two decades now, allowing users to
create 3D stills, or full broadcast quality videos, with a real-time 3D
engine that is capable of producing interactive 3D content.
The program even has its own integrated game engine (written in C++),
and users can code their own game logic, make use of Python scripting
API for artificial intelligence, and port models made within Blender to
any third-party game engine.
Despite its big aims and broad functionality, Blender is designed
with a small footprint and fast modelling process in mind. A slick
workflow is promised, with keyboard shortcuts to make the modelling
process as swift as possible.
Blender’s sculpting tools encompass 20 different brush types, and the
program offers a vast array of lighting and shadow effects, along with
accurate shaders to render the likes of glass and translucency with an
ultra-realistic appearance.
The program also has fast rigging tools to ensure that posing your 3D
models is made easier, and an animation toolset which allows for
independent movements via Non Linear Animation, complex walk-cycles and
other intricacies such as the synchronisation of sound with the
animation.
Blender comes with a full compositor, along with camera and object
tracking that allows the user to import and track footage, and then mask
areas, with a real-time preview of the 3D scene provided.
It can also be used to deliver accurate simulations of fire and
smoke, water and other fluids, the destruction of objects in your
rendered scenes and much more.
